NCS IMX Camp Selections

January 5, 2021 by Bill Martin

IMX Swimmers & Parents,

First off congratulations to those on the list below who have been selected to attend the 2021 IMX Camp at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Saturday, January 23rd!  We hope that all of you have had a good first half of the season and will be able to participate.

2021 NCS IMX Camp Selections

If you name is on the above list, please submit the online release form prior to attending the camp.

2021 NCS IMX Camp Release Form

As we have all been dealing with the COVID virus for almost a year now, we want you to know that making sure that we provide a safe environment for our swimmers and coaches during the camp will be one of our main focuses.  Of course the swimmers having a good time and learning some things that they can take home with them will also be a priority as always as well.

With that being said I wanted to let you know they procedures we plan to have in place to help make sure that we have a safe atmosphere for all.

  1. We will be operating in groups of 20 swimmers or less and in spaces that allow us to maintain social distancing.  Having the swimmers being aware of staying spaced out will help with this.  In the pool there will be no more than 4 swimmer per lane.
  2. We will be temperature checking swimmers & staff at check-in as they arrive.
  3. Swimmers should all bring their own water bottle labeled with their name on it.
  4. Everyone at the camp will be expected to wear a mask throughout the camp when they are not in the pool.
  5. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the facility so swimmers & coaches can keep hands free throughout the camp.
  6. Locker room use will be limited during changing to avoid overcrowding.  We are working on using multiple locker rooms to help accommodate the transitions.

We are still working on the detailed schedule for the camp but below are the tentative pickup and drop off times for each group so that you can plan accordingly.

10 & 11 Year Olds:

Arrival & Check-in – 8:15-8:30

Pickup – 12:30

12 & 13 Year Olds:

Arrival & Check-in – 1:30-1:45

Pickup – 5:45

Please feel free to give me a call with any questions and watch for more details leading up to the camp.

Happy New Year!

NCS Open Water Zone Team: Information

December 17, 2020 by Bill Martin

Dear Coaches,

With the fall Open Water Meet being moved to October, and some teams/swimmers still uncertain about going to meet in October, there was no qualifying meet for the 2021 NCS Open Water Zone team, which will swim in the Southern Zone Open Water meet in Chattanooga on June 5 & 6.  There will be a loosen up swim at the lake on June 4th.

A few things that are going to be different this year for the 2021 Open Water Zones.

 1.  It will not be a team travel trip.  The parents/swimmers will be responsible for getting to Chattanooga, and to the lake.  They will be responsible for making and paying for hotel arrangements, along with their own food. NC Swimming will be sending three coaches and one official to the meet.  The coaches will be Head Coach Brett Ciancanelli, Assistant Coach/Manager Jonathan Bescher, Assistant Coach Blake Addison, and Official Leigh Ciancanelli.  All costs associated with the trip will be the responsibility of the Parent/Guardians of the swimmer.

There will be a timeline so the swimmers know when to show up.  We will be working on getting a block of hotel rooms near the lake. This will allow the swimmers to decide on how they want to travel to the meet.  If some swimmers wanted to room together, that would not be on NC Swimming, that would be purely up to the families involved.

 2.  Team selection will be determined by an application process.  We will be asking for 500, 1000, and 1650 times, along with any Open Water experience you may have.

The application will open on 2/1/2021, and close on 2/28/2021. The closing date will be after Senior and Age Group Champs.  The link to the application will be posted on the NCS website and sent out closer to the 2/1/2021 date.

The selection committee will consist of John Payne, Jonathan Bescher, David McDevitt, JP Merchant, and Amy Faulk.

The team will be announced on Monday 3/15/2021.

 3.  There will be a slight cost for the event to cover the registration fee.  Once we get that cost, we will make sure to include it in the application along with any reminders.  This will be the only thing that will need to be paid to NC Swimming.

4.  The NCS Open Water Zone team will now be sponsored by Speedo.  Swimmers will still be getting gear for the meet.

If you have any questions about the process, please contact Jonathan Bescher at coachbesch@newwaveswimteam.org

Thanks,

Jon

TAC Titan Trio Blitz NCS Records

December 15, 2020 by Bill Martin

The TAC Titan’s trio of Charlotte Hook, Caroline Pennington, and Claire Curzan accounted for seven new NCS short course records at the TAC Blizzard Blitz this past weekend. Hook set a new record in the women’s 15-16 200 free, Pennington broke the women’s 15-18 1650 free record, and Curzan established new marks in both the 15-16 100 back and 15-16 200 back. Curzan’s 200 back time was also a new 15-18 record, while her 100 back time was a new record for both the 15-18 and the Open age groups.

In a college meet the previous weekend, Coleman Stewart of NC State set a new NCS Open record in the men’s 100 back.

Congratulations!

NCS Covid Relief Program: EXTENSION

December 11, 2020 by Bill Martin

North Carolina Swimming is happy to announce that the Back in the Swim COVID-19 Relief Program meet scheduling section has been extended through March 31, 2021. Initially the program was planned to expire on December 31, but with the current state of the pandemic and the ongoing uncertainty, the eased requirements for submitting sanction requests have been extended. All other elements of the program remain the same.

  • Clubs may reschedule meets or add incremental meets without scheduling approval.
  • Sanction requests for meets through March 31 must be submitted at least 14 days prior to the first day of the competition.
  • Meet recons must be submitted to Barb at least 7 days prior to the first day of the competition. A $500 recon late fee remains in effect.
  • Teams needing to cancel or reschedule meets due to facility closures or government mandates may do so without penalty.

NCS Back in the Swim COVID -19 Relief Program

The situation will be reevaluated toward the end of the current short course season but the plan is that sanction requests for all meets scheduled during the 2021 long course season beginning on April 1, 2021 (regardless of meet classification) must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the first day of the competition.

Assuming things are back to normal following the 2021 long course season, the published NCS sanction rules will be reinstated for meets scheduled during the 2021-22 short course season, beginning Sept 1, 2021.

Long course records set at U.S. Open

November 15, 2020 by Bill Martin

The Toyota U.S. Open meet at the Greensboro Aquatic Center featured record-setting times by some of North Carolina’s top swimmers. Because of the COVID-19 situation, the U.S. Open was held in multiple locations around the country and times compared to rank swimmers by order of finish. Click here for a complete list of combined results.

Elite club swimmers, along with college and professional swimmers, competed in the meets. NCS club swimmers set several NCS long course records over the course of the three-day timed final meet.

Claire Curzan (TAC Titans) set a new 15-16 women’s national age group record in the 100 fly with a time of 51.61. Her time was the fastest time recorded in any of the meet locations! Her times in the 50 free and 100 free also set new NCS records. The 100 free time was also a 15-18 NCS record and her 100 fly time was both a new 15-18 NCS record and an NCS Open record.

Braeden Haughey (TAC Titans) and Sam Hoover (NCAC) also set new NCS long course records at the U.S. Open. Haughey set his 15-16 men’s record in the 200 back while Hoover broke the 15-18 men’s 100 free record, dipping below 50 seconds with a time of 49.71.

Sam Marsteiner (WAVE) also added four NCS 11-12 records at an October long course meet held at the Triangle Aquatic Center. Marsteiner set new records in the 200 free, the 800 free, the 1500 free, and the 200 back!
