Below is the list of North Carolina Swimming athletes who finished with a Top Five time in one or more short course or long course event during the period beginning on Sept 1, 2021 and ending on August 21, 2022 (athletes are listed by club code). Top Fives are listed by age group – 10U, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, and 17-18. The colored bars next to the names indicate whether a Top Five time was achieved in short course (red bar) or long course (blue bar)…or both.
Those achieving Top Five status will receive Top Five swim caps. Caps will be sent to the swimmers’ clubs for distribution.
Top Five age group rankings should not be confused with the NCS Top Ten rankings, which are listed by individual age. Top Five achievement also has nothing to do with order of finish at NCS championship meets. The list is based on age group rankings at the end of the qualifying period…which this year was August 21, 2022.

It was another big week for the NCS long course record-breakers at the USA Swimming Summer Junior Nationals in Irvine, CA. Sam Marsteiner of New WAVE added new 13-14 boys’ records in the 200 free, the 800 free, and the 200 fly. Earlier in the week he set a new NCS record in the 13-14 boys 1500 free!
Norvin Clontz of SwimMAC also continued his assault on the NCS record book by breaking the 15-16 400 free record that he set a week earlier at Nationals! His time of 3:50.82 was also a record in the 15-18 men’s category.
Another SwimMAC athlete, Avery Klamfoth broke her own 13-14 girls’ 400 IM record.
The SwimMAC 18U men’s 200 free relay team of Granger Bartee, John Kroll, Aidan Hill, and Tiesyn Harris set a new mark in that event.
Congratulations swimmers!

Several NCS long course records fell at meets held in the last couple of weeks. Albert Smeltzer (SGSA) bettered his own record in the 13-14 boys 50 free at the Southern Zone Championship meet in Tupelo. Sam Marsteiner (WAVE) set a new record in the 13-14 boys 1500 free at Junior Nationals earlier this week. With fast times being swum at Junior Nationals in Irvine, CA, we can expect more records to fall as that meet continues…stay tuned.
NCS records also were set at the Futures meet in Cary last week. Clem Camacho (TAC) broke the 13-14 boys 400 IM record and Grayson Nye (TAC) established the new mark in the 15-16 boys 200 breast. TAC Titan relays also entered the record book in both the 18U men’s and women’s 400 medley relay events. Will Thompson, Grayson Ney, Colin Whelehan, and Jerry Fox made up the record-breaking men’s team, while Taylor Morris, Samantha Armand, Charlotte Hook, and Keelan Cotter teamed up to shatter the women’s mark. The women’s 400 medley relay time was also a new National Age Group record!
Meanwhile, at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine last week, Norvin Clontz (MAC) had a monster meet, breaking 15-16 boys records in three events – the 400 free, the 800 free, and the 400 IM. SwimMAC teammate Ben Delmar also set a new NCS record in the 15-18 boys 200 breast. Another NCS record fell when Will Gallant (WOLF) broke the men’s open record in the 1500 free. SwimMAC also set a new record in the 18U boys 200 medley relay with the team of Caleb Maldari, Matthew Kroll, Harrison Ranier, and Tiesen Harris.
Congratulations swimmers!
