North Carolina’s Governor Roy Cooper issued the latest Executive Order regarding COVID-19 restrictions on 3/23/2021. Below is a copy of Executive Order No. 204. The latest Executive Order eases some restrictions on indoor and outdoor capacities. Sections 1.3, 1.4, and 3.13 may be of particular interest to the swimming community. 2021 Carolina Crown: Qualifiers and Registration Form
Congratulations Carolina Crown Swim Challenge qualifiers!
The 2021 Carolina Crown Swim Challenge will be held at the CSD Community YMCA in Clover, South Carolina on Saturday, April 24 and will feature top swimmers, ages 15-18, from both North Carolina and South Carolina. Participating athletes will receive team T shirts, sweat shirts, and swim caps.
Below are two lists; one list is Automatic qualifiers, and the other list is Alternate qualifiers.
Automatic qualifiers: athletes in the top 8 in NC or SC (by individual age 15, 16, 17, and 18 and gender) in any of the meet’s events.
NORTH CAROLINA SWIMMING AUTOMATIC QUALIFIERS
Alternate qualifiers: athletes who are not Automatic qualifiers but are in the top 75 NC-SC combined standings (by individual age 15-18 and gender) in any of the meet’s events.
NORTH CAROLINA SWIMMING ALTERNATE QUALIFIERS
All Automatic and Alternate qualifiers interested in participating are encouraged to submit the athlete registration form and entry fee ASAP. The $85 entry fee for those named to the Carolina Crown roster is non-refundable.
The registration fee will be refunded if an athlete registers and is not selected.
CAROLINA CROWN ATHLETE REGISTRATION FORM
The meet will be capped at 240 athletes with Automatic qualifiers receiving priority through March 24th. If the 240 cap is reached with Automatic qualifiers, registration will close at that point. If the 240 cap is not reached by March 25th, those on the Alternate qualifier list will be added to the roster – with priority based on registration date. After March 25th, once the cap is reached, registration will be closed to all Automatic and Alternate qualifiers.
Unless the 240 cap is reached earlier, the deadline for registrations is 10:00 pm on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
Selections and team assignments will be posted by April 5, 2021.
GCY swimmer sets new NCS mark
Reina Lu of the Greensboro Community YMCA Swim Team (GCY) set a new NCS 10&Under Girls 100 IM record at the Age Group Sectional meet in Cary this past weekend. Lu swam the event in 1:05.81 to set the new mark.

SwimMAC wins Age Group Sectional
SwimMAC Carolina was the overall team champion at the Age Group Sectional Meet held at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary this weekend. SwimMAC was the top scoring team in both the boys and girls divisions. The TAC Titans finished second overall with the Marlins of Raleigh in third place. Rounding out the top five teams were New Wave Swimming (fourth) and Team Greenville – SC (fifth).

USA Swimming Spring/Summer Meets Recap
USA Swimming has several meets scheduled for Spring/Summer 2021. They include the Spring Virtual Meets Series, March 3-March 28; the TYR 18 & Under Spring Cup LCM Meet, April 29-May 2; the Speedo Summer Invitational (combined US Open and Summer Juniors LCM meets) August 3-7; and the USA Swimming Futures LCM meet July 28-July 31.
Rocky Mount YMCA (RMY) earns Safe Sport Club Recognition Status
Congratulations to the Rocky Mount Family YMCA (RMY), the latest North Carolina Swimming club to earn USA Swimming’s new Safe Sport Club Recognition! The Safe Sport Club Recognition program distinguishes USA Swimming clubs that demonstrate their commitment to creating safe, healthy, and positive environments for all of their members through the development and implementation of Athlete Protection Policies, Safe Sport Best Practices, and Safe Sport education.
Rocky Mount YMCA Swim Team has been highlighted as a Safe Sport Recognized Club with a banner on its team listing in the USA Swimming Find-a-Team Search and will receive a medallion for their club’s website as well. Clubs can apply for the Safe Sport Recognized Club program through their Club Portal on the USA Swimming website. TAC Titans win Senior Sectional Meet
The host team, TAC Titans, won the 2021 ESSZ Senior Short Course Sectional meet this past weekend. The Titans had the highest score in the women’s division, finished second in the men’s division, and had he top combined score. Second place SwimMAC Carolina placed second in women’s and first in the men’s division. Completing the top five overall finishers were third place – Lakeside (Kentucky), fourth place – North Carolina Aquatic Club, and fifth place – Marlins of Raleigh.

NAG records set at Senior Sectional
USA Swimming National Team member Claire Curzan of the TAC Titans had another phenomenal record-breaking performance at the 2021 ESSZ Short Course Senior Sectional meet at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary this past weekend. Curzan set new National Age Group (NAG) records in the 50 free (21.50), the 100 back (50.03), and the 100 fly (49.51). Her times were also NCS records in the 15-16, 15-18, and Open age groups.
TAC Titan’s teammate, Charlotte Hook, also a member of the USA National Team, broke the NCS 15-18 record in the 200 fly. Her time of 1:52.72 was also a new Open age group record.
Matthew Lucky of Sailfish Aquatics broke two records over the weekend. During Thursday’s long course time trials, Lucky set a new 15-16 long course record in the 200 breast. He followed that up with a new 15-16 short course record, also in the 200 breast.
Meanwhile, SwimMAC’s Baylor Nelson broke the 15-18 short course record in the 200 breast with a time of 1:56.01.
