DOHA, QATAR – World Aquatics Championships – DOHA 2024
Congratulations to NCS athlete, Claire Curzan, 19 year old Olympian and North Carolina native. Claire was selected as 1 of 14 women to be a part of TEAM USA’s World Championship Roster, and has been competing this past week in Doha, Qatar at the World Championships. Curzan was named Female Swimmer of the Meet, leading TEAM USA with her 3 Gold Backstroke Sweep making her the second woman and third swimmer in history to achieve the 50/100/200 Sweep of the same stroke at Worlds. Curzan also received Gold in the 4 x 100 Mixed Medley Relay, silver in the 100 Fly, and bronze in the 400 Free Mixed Relay. Totaling 6 medals overall. Way to Go Claire!
Claire Curzan has an extensive swimming resume within North Carolina Swimming, including numerous NCS State Records that remain untouchable this past weekend at the 2024 NCS AG SC Championship meet. North Carolina Swimming is so proud of Claire Curzan’s accomplishments on the world stage. Keep up the good work Claire, We are so proud of you! NCS is Cheering you on! #WEARENCS

Congratulations to the TAC Titans 13-14 Women’s 200 Medley Relay (Reina Liu, Carolin He, Nicole Nixon, and Sloane Whelehan) setting a new National Age Group Record in a time of 1:41.57. The NAG Record and NCS State Record were previously held by the TAC Titans from 2019. Congratulations!!! #WEARENCS

Congratulations to David Sammons (SwimMAC), 13-14 Male, breaking two more NCS Records at the 2024 NCS AG Championship Meet in Cary, NC. Sammons set a NEW NCS State Record in the Mens 13-14 200 Fly with a time of 1:47.03. In addition, Sammons set a NEW NCS State Record in the Mens 13-14 100 Back in a time of 49.61. Congratulations to SwimMAC Carolina‘s 13-14 Mens 800 Freestyle Relay consisting of Dean Hamid, David Sammons, Eli Sweet, and Griffin Cagle. Out of the gates night one, they swam a blazingly fast relay in 6:51.02, breaking the former National Age Group Record from 2022 of 6:51.26 held by Irvine Novaquatics. Congratulations gentlemen on setting a New NAG Record and a NEW NCS State Record! 2024 NCS Age Group Championships are taking place at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, NC February 15-18, 2024.

We have 1056 athletes from 46 Clubs from all across the LSC. NCS is going all out for an exciting AG Champs! So Grab your spirit wear for each themed day, Bring the excitement with your Club, because we are Raising the FUN with Professional DJ / MC, James Balcer -in the house. NCS will also be awarding Hot heat prizes throughout all sessions of the weekend. Camp Description
ELIGIBILITY
Athletes must be a registered member of USA Swimming (Premium, Flex or Outreach). Athletes must represent an ethnically under-represented population that is less than 10% of the current USA Swimming membership to be eligible for this camp.
Athletes age 11-16 must have achieved at least one “B” time standard or have competed in at least three (3) USA Swimming sanctioned competitions during the current qualifying period (September 1, 2023-April 1, 2024).
A total of 40 athletes (20 from South Carolina and 20 from North Carolina) will be selected to attend.
Medical release forms will be given to all selected camp members immediately following selection.
Any questions regarding the diversity select camp or the application process may be directed to South Carolina Swimming DEI Chair Martha Chiwanza or North Carolina Swimming DEI Chair Jamie Bloom.
Activities will involve two in-water sessions, educational sessions and an opportunity for parents to learn about officiating, in addition to learning opportunities from guest speakers.
Thanks to our collaborative partnership, North Carolina Swimming and South Carolina Swimming are able to present this opportunity to our athletes at no cost.
