NCS athletes on World Championships roster

The final night of racing wrapped up Saturday as 41 athletes who competed at the Phillips 66 International Team Trials were officially named to the 2022 FINA World Championships U.S. roster. The full roster can be viewed here. 

Special congratulations to current and former NCS athletes Katharine Berkoff (NC State), Erica Brown (formerly with SwimMAC), Claire Curzan (TAC Titans), Ryan Held (formerly with NC State), and Justin Ress (formerly with NC State and the Marlins of Raleigh) on earning a spot on the Team USA roster!

The roster features 41 names, 28 of whom will be making their first FINA World Championships (LCM) appearance. Four athletes—Michael Andrew, Claire Curzan, Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky—qualified in four individual events to lead the team, while Ledecky and Chase Kalisz became one of the select few swimmers to ever qualify for five FINA World Championships rosters.

The 2022 FINA World Championships will take place in Budapest, Hungary from June 18-25. This week’s competition also served as the qualifier for the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Championships roster and as part of the selection for the 2022 Mel Zajac Jr. Invitational. 2022 Phillips 66 International Team Trials

The moment many American swim fans have been waiting for is nearly here: The 2022 Phillips 66 International Team Trials. 

The competition will take place April 26-30 in Greensboro, N.C., at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The pre-scratch psych sheet has an unbelievably talented lineup, seeing 73 U.S. National Team members, 41 Olympians and 36 American record holders (across short course yards, short course meters and long course meters) on the slate. In total, nearly 450 athletes will test the Greensboro water in efforts to qualify for the U.S. roster at the 2022 FINA World Championships, Junior Pan Pacific Championships and/or Mel Zajac Jr. Invitational.

NSEA to host Swimclusion Run

NSEA SWIM will be hosting their 2nd annual 5K on April 23rd in Wilmington, NC.  The 5K will be run through historical downtown Wilmington. All proceeds from the 5K will benefit the free swim lesson program at the Northside at the Earl Jackson pool.  For more information on the free swim lesson program you can go to www.nseaswim.com

2022 NCS Club Development Incentive Program

The 2022 North Carolina Swimming Club Development Incentive Program is now live.

Clubs can access the Online Application Form here.

The Club Development Incentive Program is open to all NCS Clubs who are at least Level 1 in the USA Swimming Club Recognition Program.

Clubs can claim achievements that occurred between September 1, 2021 and August 31, 2022. Clubs can select the points that are most relevant to them and are not required to answer all questions. The max payout is $1,000 and will be calculated for all eligible clubs submitting online applications by October 15, 2022.

APT Certification System Maintenance

The U.S. Center for SafeSport will be updating online courses soon. Any in-progress APT certification/re-certification courses not completed before Monday, April 18 will be deleted from the system. The system will re-open on April 21 but members will have to start all APT certification/re-certification courses from the beginning.

GAC to host U.S. Open & Winter Juniors

For the second consecutive year, the Greensboro Aquatic Center will host the Toyota U.S. Open and the Speedo Winter Junior National Championships. The U.S. Open dates are Nov. 30 – Dec. 3, 2022 and the Winter Juniors are Dec. 7 – Dec. 10, 2022. Greensboro will also be the site of the Phillips 66 International Team Trials later this month, beginning on April 26.

NCS swimmers at National OW Championships

Several NCS swimmer competed in the USA Swimming National & Junior Open Water Championships in Fort Myers Beach, Florida this past weekend. Samuel Marsteiner of WAVE finished first in the 5K Junior National Championship, earning him a spot on the U.S. roster at the FINA World Junior Open Water Championships, which takes place September 1-4 in Beau Vallon, Seychelles. (Click to view the USA Swimming Article)

Alexander Ayers of SwimMAC also placed high, finishing third in the 7.5K Junior National Championship.

Other NCS swimmers participating in the meet were: Aaron Davidson (WAVE) 5K Juniors, Santiago Alzate (MAC) 5K Juniors, Clarke Neace (MAC) 5K Juniors, Kathryn Cinson (YSST) 5K Juniors, Matthew Marsteiner (WAVE) 7.5K Juniors, and Jackson Scheiber (WAVE) 7.5K Juniors.

2022 Carolina Crown Swim Challenge

The 2022 Carolina Crown Swim Challenge livestream will be available on the Team Greenville Facebook page.

Team rosters have been announced for the 2022 Carolina Crown Swim Challenge.

The 2022 Carolina Crown will be held at the Greenville County Aquatic Complex, 2700 West Blue Ridge Drive (SC Highway 253) Greenville, SC 29611 on Saturday, April 23, 2022. The meet will be hosted by South Carolina Swimming and will feature top age 15-18 swimmers from North Carolina and South Carolina.

  1. Athlete check-in:  10:00 am
  2. Coaches arrive:  9:00 am
  3. Warm-ups:  11:00-11:45 am
  4. Meet begins:  12:00 noon
  5. Medals to Top-8 swimmers in individual events; Top-3 relays.
  6. Winning squad athletes and coaches receive a towel at the conclusion of the meet.
